CALL FOR PROPOSALS
‘KITCHEN‘
The Belluard Bollwerk International and the Migros-Kulturprozent are looking for artistic projects, outrageous designs, playful idea’s or radical concepts that re-invent the festival kitchen.
At the heart of every artistic process there is always a kitchen. A cooking place, an eating and meeting place – a place that nourishes creative discussions.
In reference to the idea of a festival as a temporary community, as a place that, during two weeks, offers both a professional context for strong work of international artists and a convivial setting for exchange between artists, locals, visitors and professionals, the Belluard Bollwerk International is looking for a ‘kitchen’.
Although its main function is supposed to be preparing food and eating, the festival kitchen can be the center of other activities as well: an environment for discussion and exchange, a space for collaboration, an interface between the city and the festival, a spot to relax and ease the mind, a space for ongoing artistic process, a centre for other satellite projects, or a location for active or passive spectatorship.
Often, the kitchen is the most comforting space at a festival, where artists and visitors can congregate.
In all these respects, the ‘kitchen’ can be the heart and hearth of the festival.
- The ‘kitchen’ will have as its location the surroundings of the Belluard fortress, the core venue of the festival, during the festival.
- The call is open to all: to artists and practitioners from other fields.
- The contest will take place in two stages:
- in a first round between 4 and 8 proposals will be selected by a professional jury (art practitioners and specialists from other fields). The selected proposals will have the possibility to be further developed during a residency in Fribourg, in collaboration with a group of mentors (specialists from different fields).
- in a second round, 1 project will be selected by a professional jury.
- The selected project will be realised as a part of the Belluard Festival 2009 and will be re-used for the next editions of the festival.
- Out of all the received projects a jury-selection will be exhibited during the Belluard Festival 2009.
- A detailed information brochure about the Contest 2009 (plan of the site, pictures, capacity, ....) will be available at the Belluard Festival 08 (June 24th to July 5th 08). Starting June 24th 08, it will be available for download on the website www.belluard.ch, or, on request, can be sent to you via post or e-mail.
