The Great War is a live animation flick produced on a miniature filmset installed in the theatre. The audience is witness to the reconstruction of the landscapes of the Western Front on a lilliputian scale, using potting soil, parsley and rusty nails. A Foley artist provides the soundtrack to the film: a rap on the table sounds like a hand grenade exploding, the striking of a match is mustard gas being released. The film's soundtrack is mainly supplemented by the reading of letters sent by Prosper, a French soldier in the Great War.
Performed for the first time in 2000, broadcasted by Arte in 2003, and never before seen in Switzerland; this show brought international success to Hotel Modern.
