Usman Haque

London

Sky Ear is an enormous cloud made up of 2000 helium-filled balloons. Equipped with sensors, it functions like a radar, detecting the earth's electromagnetic topography. The diodes inserted inside the balloons draw colourful geometrical figures on the surface of the cloud. With their cell phones, onlookers call the cloud, watching the effects and hearing the sounds produced by the natural and artificial electromagnetic phenomena. Usman Haque is one of three winners of this year's contest.
Sky Ear is a production of the BBI, carried out thanks to a contribution of the Canton Fribourg to the culture. With the support of Fondation Nestl pour lArt, the Daniel Langlois Foundation and the help of Seth Garlock, Senseinate Inc.
