Richard Maxwell is one of the most important stage directors of American theater of the past ten years. His work has stood out because of his hyper-realistic approach, his minimalist staging and his actor's playing, bereft of any excess. Maxwell seems particularly interested in depicting social relationships in America today. He presents ordinary people, alone, entangled in their own existence, drowning in a complex world where contradictions coexist.
Born in Fargo in 1968, Richard Maxwell studied theater in Chicago. He founds the New York City Players on Broadway in 1994. Since, he has written and directed over twenty plays. For the Belluard, he conceives a new project: Ode to the Man who Kneels.
