Marijs Boulogne

Bruxelles

Marijs Boulogne started by knitting a little dress, just in case, one day, she had a baby. Then she thought she would knit the entire baby: the skin, the lungs, the stomach, the heart, the kidneys, all the organs.
The project went through many stages. It became a living installation where the audience could see Marijs assistants preparing the baby, placing the knit organs and the modelling-clay bones. The baby became a performance during which Marijs Boulogne gave birth to a piece of glass and then presented the embroidered newborn. It was also the subject of an autopsy done by its mother on her still-born baby. Finally, the project became a mothers narrative while she accompanies the tiny cadaver as it rots: the baby is dead, there is an autopsy, caterpillars appear on the skin and turn into butterflies.
With no perversion or cruelty, no joy, no pain, Marijs Boulogne takes us along into her anatomical theater to show us the miracle of life . A new stage for the project: Frais mais dj pourri.
